In 1997 en 1998 ben ik 2 x naar Londen afgereist. Hieronder enkele foto's
Natuurlijk mag de Tower Bridge niet ontbreken. Westminister Abbey is een mooi voorbeeld van engelse gotiek. Met een interieur van 30 meter hoogte is het de hoogste kerk van Engeland.

Verder plaatje vanuit mijn zitplaats in de Royal Albert Hall, waar een uitvoering was van Puccini's Madame Butterfly.

In 1997 and 1998 I went to London twice. Here is an impression. Of course I visited the Tower Bridge and Westminister Abbey, a nice example of Brittish gothic style. With a interior height of 30 metres, it is the highest gothic church of Britain.

The picture in the middle shows a view from my seat in the Royal Albert Hall where a performance of Puccini's Madame Butterfly took place.

Bath

Tijdens de laatste trip naar londen ben ik ook een dag naar Bath geweest, een heel mooie stad in Georgiaanse stijl. De kathedraal, die ook wel de 'Glass Cathedral' wordt genoemd, werd in de 15e eeuw gebouwd in engelse flamboyante gotiek. In het interieur vinden we het typische engelse Perpendicular gewelf.

Bath is a very beautiful town buit in Georgian style. The cathedral, also called 'Glass Cathedral' was built in the 15th century. It is a very nice example of late Brittish gothic style, with its Ceiling in 'Perpendicular' Style.

Naast de cathedraal staat het badhuis, dat nog gedeeltelijk uit de Romeinse tijd stamt. In de 17e eeuw is het badhuis weer opgebouwd in Georgiaanse stijl. Nog steeds zijn er belangrijke Romeinse delen in tact.

Just a short walk from the cathedral one can find the old Roman Baths, which has been rebuilt in the 17th century in Georgian style. Still important roman parts remain.
