Gloucester June 2006

Gloucester is op zichzelf niet heel indrukwekkend, des te meer is zijn kathedraal. De plaats waar the "Perpendicular style" is uitgevonden. De perpendicular style is het engelse andwoord geweest op de flamboyante gotiek (in Frankrijk en de Nederlanden). De oplossingen zijn echter zeer inventief.

Glouster itself is niet very impressive however the cathedral is!. It is the place where the "Perpendicular style" was invented. This style is the Brittish answer to the Late gothic architecture on the European mainland. Some of their solutions however are very inventive and origonal.

Het gewelf bestaat uit 4 omgekeerde kegels die in de kruin met elkaar intefereren. /The ceiling, a mathimatical complicated structure.

Het schoorwerk bevindt zich aan de binnenkand van de kerk, niet aan de buitenkant zoals bij de meeste Franse kathedralen. / The structures to support the building are not on the outside (like most French cathedrals) but on the inside.
