Ringvormige zonsverduistering / Annular solar eclipse 3 - 10 -  2005

Op 3 oktober 2005 was er in Spanje een ringvormige zonsverduistering te zien. Deze duurde maximaal ruim 4 minuten

Voor deze eclips heb ik een stedentrip naar Madrid geboekd. Madrid lag immers op de centrale lijn en de verduistering zou er 4m11s gaan duren. Het weerbericht zag er goed uit en na een bezoek aan Segovia een dag eerder was het moment aangebroken. De hele verduistering werd gevolgd vanaf de Puerta del Sol, een groot plein in het hard van Madrid. Deze locatie lag slechts zo'n 2 km van de centrale lijn.  Er schuifelde ook nog al wat TV en kranten journalisten rond. Al gauw raakte ik aan de praad met een Italiaanse journalist die - zonder eclipsbril - de sfeer stondte registreren. Ook een spaanse jongedame zat zonder oogbescherming - zij wist vijf minuten eerder nog niet dat er een zonsverduistering gaande was.

Het begin van de verduistering ging vrij onopgemerkt voorbij maar omdat de media al uitgebreid aandacht hadden besteed aan het verschijnsel, strommde na 10h30 het plein helemaal vol. Langzaam schoof de maan verder voor de zon. Het licht nam wat af. Mooi was te zien hoe in de laatste minuten voor het tweede contact de sikkelhoorntjes snel naar elkaar toe kromden,

kort voor de ringvormige fase was heel even een kralensnoer te zien. Even later wat de verduistering ringvormig. Na ongeveer 15 seconden had ook de rest van de het toegestroomde publiek op het plein het in de gaten en klonk er een beschaafd applaus.

Na de ringvormige fase nam de interesse van de mensen snel af. Het plein stroomde leeg en vrij snel ging het alledaagse leven weer verder.

For this eclipse I booked a short break to Madrid, whivch lied very near the center line. The weather forecasts showed very sunny weather. After a day trip to Segovia the big moment finally came. The whole eclipse was watche from the Puerta del Sol square in the Madrid city centre. Some TV en paper journalists walked around, sometimes asking people for an interview. I met an Italian reporter who was registering the atmosphere and didn't have any eclipse glasses. Also a young giirl hadn't any, five minutes ago she didn't even know a solar eclipse was taking place.

The eclipse started without anu notice but as the media already paid lot of attention to the event, more and more people gathered on the square, especially after 10h30m. Slowly the moon occulted the sun morte and more. The light intensity decreased. It was nice to see the crescent horns were moving towards each other.

Shortly before the annular phase Baileys beads were visible. After fifteen seconds into annularity a short applause sounded, the people on the square had noticed.

Short after third contact, the people lost their interrest and life went on as usual.
